Electromechanical Behavior of Bi Sr CaCu O Conductor Using a Split Melt Process for React-Wind-Sinter Magnet Fabrication

چکیده
A new approach to magnet fabrication, react, wind and sinter (RWS), has been proposed for Bi Sr CaCu O (Bi2212), magnets. In this process, the conventional Bi2212 heat treatment is split into two portions, and the magnet is wound between these heat treatments. Here we report results on the RWS “split melt process”. Significant increases in are obtained in Bi2212 round wires compared to standard melt processing. Strain effect measurements, using the Lorentz force, indicate that RWS wires have similar mechanical performance as wind and react wires. Effects of the split melt temperature on the electromechanical properties are also reported. These results show that split melt processing and RWS magnet fabrication are viable approaches for Bi2212 conductors and magnets.

Proof-of-principle experiments for react--wind--sinter manufacturing of Bi2Sr2CaCu2Ox magnets
The manufacturing of long lengths of Bi2Sr2CaCu2Ox (Bi2212) wire has led to the development of high-field magnets at low temperature. Both react-and-wind and wind-and-react manufacturing of magnets, however, have significant drawbacks that limit the performance of the conductor in magnet form. In this letter, an alternative approach to magnet manufacturing, react–wind–sinter, is proposed to avo...

Why Bi(2)Sr(2)CaCu(2)Ox (Bi2212) allows high critical current density Jc in round wires rather than only in the anisotropic tape form demanded by all other high temperature superconductors is important for future magnet applications. Here we compare the local texture of state-of-the-art Bi2212 and Bi2223 ((Bi,Pb)(2)Sr(2)Ca(2)Cu(3)O(10)), finding that round wire Bi2212 generates a dominant a-axi...

Ž . Ž . Superconductor films 25–125 mm thick were melt-grown under an elevated magnetic field 0–10 T . The degree of Ž . texture and transport critical current J of these films were enhanced by the application of a magnetic field. J increases c c with increasing magnetic field and the measured saturation magnetic field decreases with decreasing thickness of the film. This method provides for re...

We describe how the contribution of crystallographic texture to the anisotropy of the resistivity of polycrystalline samples can be estimated by averaging over crystallographic orientations through a geometric mean approach. The calculation takes into account the orientation distribution refined from neutron diffraction data and literature values for the single crystal resistivity tensor. The e...
